Safeguarding for Parents and Carers

Working together to keep pupils safe, listened to and cared for.

Safeguarding at Llanedeyrn Primary School

At Llanedeyrn Primary School, safeguarding means keeping pupils safe, supporting their wellbeing and making sure they know who they can speak to if they are worried.

We work closely with pupils, parents and carers, staff, governors and partner agencies to help protect pupils and provide the right support when it is needed.

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility

If you are worried about a pupil

If you are worried about a pupil’s safety or wellbeing, please contact the School as soon as possible and ask to speak to Mrs Knuckey or Mrs Hilton.

You do not need to wait until you are certain. If something does not feel right, it is always better to share the concern.

If a child is at immediate risk of harm, phone 999.

For urgent safeguarding concerns outside school hours, please contact the appropriate safeguarding services.

What safeguarding means

Safeguarding is about protecting pupils from harm and making sure they are safe, healthy and supported. It includes much more than child protection.

  • child protection and welfare concerns
  • attendance and wellbeing
  • online safety
  • anti-bullying and behaviour
  • health and safety
  • safe recruitment and staff training
  • support for pupils and families when difficulties arise
How we help keep pupils safe

We want every pupil to feel safe, valued and listened to. Staff are trained to notice concerns, respond appropriately and pass information to the safeguarding team when needed.

  • Staff receive regular safeguarding training and updates.
  • Concerns are recorded and shared with the right safeguarding staff.
  • We follow safeguarding procedures and work with partner agencies when needed.
  • Pupils are taught who they can speak to if they are worried.
  • We support pupils through relationships, wellbeing work, online safety and our wider curriculum.
What happens if a concern is shared?

If a concern is shared with us, we will listen carefully and respond sensitively. Our priority is always the safety and wellbeing of the pupil.

  • The concern will be taken seriously.
  • The safeguarding team may record the concern securely.
  • We may speak with parents or carers when it is appropriate to do so.
  • Sometimes we may need to share information with other professionals to help keep a pupil safe.
  • We will act in line with our safeguarding policy and relevant safeguarding procedures.
Working with families

We value working in partnership with parents and carers. In most situations, we aim to work openly and supportively with families so that pupils receive the right help at the right time.

There may be times when safeguarding information needs to be shared with other professionals. This will always be done carefully and with the pupil’s safety and wellbeing at the centre of our decisions.

Confidentiality and information sharing

Safeguarding information is treated carefully and respectfully. Information is only shared with people who need to know in order to protect or support a pupil.

If there is a concern that a pupil may be at risk of harm, the School has a duty to share information with the appropriate safeguarding professionals.
